Attendance

At Horizon Primary Academy, we pride ourselves on our attendance and the actions we take to ensure that every child attends well. We firmly believe that every day counts and that every child must have a reason to come to school.

As a school, we set the daily, weekly and annual expectation at 96%, with a target of 97%, significantly above the national average.

Competitions:

We hold termly competitions, which alternate between class and individual competitions.

When a class competition is being held, every class enters the race, with the winning class being awarded a special trip.

When an individual competition is being held, all children enter this challenge and those with the highest attendance enter a draw for a special prize and a family voucher.

Tackling Persistent Absence:

Children who fall below 90% attendance or are at risk of falling below this figure, are placed on a tracking card, which is stamped daily. If children attend every day in this period, they will be awarded a £10 wish - a gift selected by them for this cost.

Awesome Attendance Acts:

At Horizon, we know it is not always easy to attend school and sometimes, families go the extra mile to get to school, despite difficult circumstances. In these cases, families are awarded with an awesome attendance act ticket, which enters them into another termly raffle, where they can win a family voucher.

Celebrating Attendance:

Attendance is celebrated every week in the celebration assembly. It is also celebrated at parents evenings, where children are awarded a coloured attendance sheet and place their pom pom into the school attendance display.
