PE
At Horizon Primary Academy, we believe that the PE curriculum should be engaging and fun, where children will become physically confident in a way that also supports their health and fitness.
We plan and teach for children to be exposed to a range of competitive sports and other physically demanding activities, as well as building character throughout. The curriculum aims for children to gain strengths and passions that will positively impact on their future, leading healthy, happy and active lives.
The National Curriculum states that “high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.” and “It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness.” Therefore the foundations of the Horizon PE curriculum are underpinned by the key concepts of movement, tactics and strategy, collaboration, leadership and healthy lifestyle. Children progressively build their understanding of these concepts through the disciplinary knowledge in each unit of learning, carefully organised into physical, cognitive, social and wellbeing knowledge.
