PSHE
At Horizon Primary Academy, we hold PSHE as a golden thread across the whole-school curriculum and school life, building values in the children for life-long personal and social development.
Our curriculum holds children at its heart, and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, our curriculum provides a whole-school approach to progressively building this within the key concept of ‘Healthy Me’. Lessons also include mindfulness, allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration, focus and self-regulation.
The Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education guidance states that by the end of primary school, pupils should know about caring friendships, respectful relationships and online relationships. The Horizon curriculum, therefore, has ‘relationships’ as one of its key concepts.
In order for children to become rounded and resilient individuals with a strong sense of identity; to know their place in the world and the difference they can make; to respect others around them within a strong community; and to build aspirations for a successful future, the Horizon PSHE curriculum is taught progressively through the key concepts of being me in the world, celebrating difference, dreams and goals, healthy me, relationships and changing me.
